Article Summary

Datasets support the identification and classification of fields within the system. Datasets provide context for various aspects of the Syniti Knowledge Platform, such as

  • within Quality to define opportunity views; rules are run against these to access the quality of the data

  • to define data objects, such as Customer Master and Material Master, that define the fields required by the business to describe these data objects

  • to catalog analytic requirements

Datasets can be a subset of a single system or span multiple systems and tie the generic business-focused documentation of terms, policies and rules to where the data is stored.

Create a Dataset

To create a dataset:

  1. Verify you’re in the Catalog module of the Syniti Knowledge Platform.
    Or
    Select Catalog from the Home menu to navigate to the Catalog module of the Syniti Knowledge Platform.

  2. Click the Create asset icon on the Site menu.

  3. Select Dataset.

For details about a specific field, hover over the Help icon.

For more information about datasets, click the Page help icon on the Site menu.

Add Fields

Once you have scanned in system fields, those fields are then available to be added to the dataset.

To add fields to a dataset:

  1. Search for the dataset.

  2. Click the Fields tab.

  3. Click the Add fields button.

  4. Select a system that has been scanned into the Syniti Knowledge Platform from the System list box.

  5. Use the Type list box to filter fields by column database, schema or table.

  6. Turn on the Fields Only toggle to show only fields (which are objects that do not have child objects) and their details, such as data type, size and allow null.

  7. Select the fields to add to the dataset.

  8. Select an Owner and/or a Classification for the fields.

  9. Click the Add Fields button.

Update Fields

Once system fields have been added to the dataset, you can optionally update the Owner and the Classification.

To update fields:

  1. Search for the dataset.

  2. Click the Fields tab.

  3. Select the field(s) to update.

  4. Select an Owner and/or a Classification.

Edit a Dataset

To edit a dataset:

  1. Search for the dataset.

  2. Click the More actions icon in the upper right.

  3. Select Edit.

For details about a specific field, hover over the Help icon.

For more information about datasets, click the Page help icon on the Site menu.

Delete a Dataset

To delete a dataset:

  1. Search for the dataset.

  2. Click the More actions icon in the upper right.

  3. Select Delete.
