About Attributes

Syniti Migrate delivers standard fields for object types in the system. A custom attribute is an additional field attached to the Object Types.The Object Types include Application, Data Element, Dataset, Datasource, Instance, Subject Area, or Table. These Attributes are provided within the details of the Object Types.

In the example below, the Dataset details contain a section for Attributes.

Attributes

The Attributes grid provides the following column headers:

Heading

Description

Object Type

This column groups the rows of data by an object within the system that stores attributes. Ex: Datasources, Data Elements, or Tables. This field is display only.

Delete

Delete icon is active for any manually created Attributes. Otherwise, it displays as not active. It deletes the current Attribute from the Object Type.

Index

Sequence of the Attributes. Value increases by factor of 10 for each new entry.

Attribute

Name of the attribute.

Description

Description of the attribute.

Active

Toggle to mark the attribute as active.

Show on Datagrid

Toggle to mark the attribute a relevant to show on the list data grid for this object type.

Note

Only the Object Types that have associated attributes display in this grid. To add a new Object Type from the list (Application, Data Element, Dataset, Datasource, Instance, Subject Area, or Table), click on Add   icon and then while creating the new attribute, select the Object Type. Upon saving, the new Object Type displays in the panel on the left with the new attribute listed.

Add an Attribute

When adding an Attribute, click Add   icon to open a dialog box for a new attribute variables. The system automatically increases Index by a factor of 10. Required fields must be filled before this attribute can save. Once complete, click on the active Save   icon to save the new attribute.

Fill in the fields for this Attribute.

Description

Index*

Sequence in the list of records. (Required)

Name*

Attribute name. (Required)

Object Type*

Select the object type to which this attribute applies. (Required)

Field Status*

Provides the attributes requirement level. Ex: Optional, Required, Hidden, Required for Complete (Required)

Description

The description of the attribute.

Attribute Type*

Select from the drop-down list the field format type. Ex: Number, Character, Date, Value List (Required)

List Source

Select the type of list for this attribute. (Contingent upon Attribute Type of Value List)  See NOTE below

Field Length

Enter the field length to this attribute. (Contingent upon Attribute Type of Character)

Decimal Value

Enter the value for decimal place for this attribute. (Contingent upon Attribute Type of Number)

Active

Toggle to set the record Active/Inactive.

Note

Defaults as Active.

Show on Datagrid

Toggle to set the attribute to show on a grid that lists this object type.

Note

Defaults as Inactive and the value is contingent upon Unique toggle being set to Inactive.

Unique

Toggle to set the attribute as a unique value.

Defaults as Active.

Note

If the Unique toggle is set as Inactive, this attribute may have multiple entries in the field value. This would be difficult to view in a datagrid, and so if the Unique toggle is set to Inactive, the toggle for Show on Datagrid is set to display only (Not Active for use).

Note

The field List Source only displays if the Attribute Type is Value List. The List Source contains a drop-down list of values from Administer > Advanced > List Boxes. Create the List Box and values and then attach to the Attribute as a List Source.

When finished with edits, click the Save  icon to complete.

Edit an Attribute

Click the Edit icon and modify the fields. When finished with edits, click the Save  icon to complete.

Note

If there have been no changes made, the Modified By and Modified On fields will display as blank.

Delete an Attribute

Only non-system defaulted attributes may be deleted from the system. The defaulted attributes display with the Delete icon as not active. To delete an attribute that was added, click the Delete icon for that row of data. If the attribute has not been assigned values within the system, it will delete without issues. However, if assigned attribute values, it will not delete.
