About Datasource Servers

There are two Datasource Servers to set up initially - A working server called Working Database Server that resides on the client site server and a Construct Server that always resides within a SQL Server (mostly at the client site as well).

Refer to section Initial Setup First Week for alignment and steps in the setup of the datasource servers.

This page defines the parameters for the connection based upon the type of datasource. View the following page by navigating to Administer > Setup > Servers from Syniti Migrate Homepage or access by using the Guided Setup.

Field Name

Description

Name

The name of the datasource.

Address

The identifier for the datasource. (This value may come from a DSN, Message Server, or an Address field of the datasource)

Database Type

The identifier for the type of database which determines the fields provided for setup.

Database Version

The version of the database that assists in the XML build for Data Services based upon the version entered.

Connection Status

Current connection status of the server - Click button to validate connection.

Note

Depending upon the type of Datasource Server, the Address field showing on this page comes from either the Application Server or the Address fields in the Details of the Datasource Sever.

Adding a Datasource Server

Each datasource server is added by clicking the Add  icon on the top right corner of the pane to open the Datasource Server window.

Note

The fields on the right side of this add window change once the value for Database Type is entered.

Field Name

Description

Server*

The name of the datasource server. (Required)

Database Type*

The identifier for the type of database which determines the fields provided for setup. (Required)

Database Version

The version of the database that assists in the XML build for SAP Data Services based upon the version entered.

Username

Enter the Username provided by client DBA. (Required for Oracle servers)

Password

Enter the Password provided by client DBA. (Required for Oracle servers)

Address*

Enter IP address for the server. Required

Port

Enter a Port name. (Required for SAP HANA or Oracle servers)

Service Name

Enter the Service name for the server. (Required for Oracle servers)

Syniti Knowledge Platform Connector

Select the connector name from the drop down list.

Note

A Connection is similar to a Network, and the Catalog System is the datasource of that network.

Catalog System

Select the catalog system from the drop down list of systems created within Syniti Data Catalog.

Encrypt Connection

Toggle to mark this connection as active / inactive for encryption of data. (Relevant for SAP HANA servers)

Note

The Syniti Knowledge Platform Connector and Catalog System must have already been created within Syniti Data Catalog prior to building these Datasource Servers.

The Search  icon on the top right allows for search of a Datasource Server should there be many entered.

When finished with edits, click the Save  icon to complete.

Delete a Datasource Server

The user may choose to delete a Datasource Server by clicking on the Delete  icon. Click OK within the Delete window to confirm the deletion.

Edit a Datasource Server

Datasource Servers may be edited by clicking the Edit  icon on the row for the datasource server.

The page below provides an example of a Datasource Server. The fields on the right half of these windows were determined based upon the Database Type.

Field Name

Description

Server*

The name of the datasource server. (Required)

Database Type*

The identifier for the type of database which can determine the fields provided for setup. (Required)

Database Version

The version of the database that assists in the XML build for SAP Data Services based upon the version entered.

Username

Enter the username provided by client DBA.

Password

Enter the Password provided by client DBA.

Address*

Enter the Application server site IP address.

Port

Enter the Port ID for the connection.

Server Instance

Optional field for server instance.

Syniti Knowledge Platform Connector

Select from the list the connector that identifies the connection.

Catalog System

Select from the list the Catalog System name.

Once the Datasource Server has been set up, the user may then complete the Datasources setup. Data mapping from sources cannot begin until these steps have been completed.

When finished with edits, click the Save  icon to complete.

Check Connection to a Datasource Server

Within the main Datasource Server page there is a column for Connection Status. This column provides an icon that reflects the last checked status of this Datasource Server. As the user clicks on this icon, it runs a system check for connection and provides feedback of the results.

There are three possible scenarios for response as shown below:

Successful Connection - This displays as a Check Mark 

Connection Fails - This displays as a RED X
