About Dataset Types
Dataset Types provide field level options for each type of dataset. Adding a new Dataset Type incorporates all the fields used for that dataset type. The user can then update by field for Optional, Required, Required on Complete, or Hidden for that Dataset Type. This action updates Dataset Design.
Working with Dataset Types
View the following page by navigating to Administer > Advanced > Dataset Types from the Syniti Migrate Homepage. This page is made up of 2 panels - Dataset Types and the Dataset Type Details which provides ability to view the list of available Datasets and the details in one page.
Image above can be used as reference to set up the standard Dataset Types and later modified if necessary, as per client requirements. The system is delivered with a set of dataset types pre-configured that may not be deleted, but may be edited. The user may add more dataset types based upon requirements for unique fields.
The Dataset Type list provides the following columns:
Fields | Description |
---|---|
Dataset Type | The name the dataset type. |
Dataset Type ID | Unique identifier for the dataset type. |
Description | Description of the Dataset Type. |
Active | Toggle for status of Dataset Type as active/inactive.
|
The Search icon on the top right corner of the pane allows you to search for a specific Dataset Type.
Add or Edit a Dataset Type
A user may Add a Dataset Type or Edit the existing Dataset Types if they are configured for editing. To add a Dataset Type:
Click the Add icon to produce a new row within the Dataset Types panel.
Enter the Dataset Type and Description field values.
Within each of the remaining sections for Dataset Details, Data Classification, Stake Holders, Additional Details, Technical Details, Custom Attributes, and Design Details the selection for type is from a drop-down list that includes Optional, Required, Required on Complete, or Hidden. These selections configure the details of the Dataset Type for the fields behavior within each section.
Note
Defaulted Dataset Types cannot be deleted, but they can be changed.
The Dataset Type Details define the usage for each dataset type:
Section | Field | Description |
---|---|---|
Dataset Type Details | Dataset Type* | Unique identifier for the dataset type. (Required) |
Dataset Type Details | Description | Detailed description for the Dataset Type. |
Dataset Type Details | Active | Toggle for status of Dataset Type as active/inactive.
|
The fields below are drop down lists to select: Optional, Required, Required on Complete, or Hidden as the status for the field thereby configuring the Dataset Type. | ||
Dataset Details | Additional Notes | Text line for adding additional notes. |
Dataset Details | Dataset Description | Detailed description of the Dataset. |
Dataset Details | RICEFW | The identity of this Dataset to the project. |
Dataset Details | Migration Prefix | Acronym or simple name of Dataset - This prefix is used to build out the XML and must be unique and limited in size. |
Dataset Details | Subject Area | The name for the process area for associated business objects. Ex: OTC, MDM |
Data Classification | Complexity | Level of complexity from 1(Low) to 4 (Very High). This is used to determine future planning of resources and hours. For more details, navigate to Administer > Advanced > Dataset Complexities. |
Data Classification | Security Classification | Security Classification ranging from Public Data or Internal Only based on the security needs of the data in a drop-down list. Determines the accessibility to data by users and can classify data such as personally identifiable information (PII) to help establish safeguards around viewing the data. |
Data Classification | Geographic Scope | Identifies if the field applies to the global solution or the local country as a drop-down list. |
Data Classification | Tier | Tier level of the data as defined in the drop-down list including Foundational, Master Data, and Transactional. |
Stakeholders | Various Roles | These fields are configured using Administer > Advanced > Stakeholders. |
Additional Details | T Code | The transaction code used for the table. |
Technical Details | FUT Status | Status for Functional Unit Testing. |
Technical Details | Load Type | Drop-down selection for the type of load Ex: Batch, Manual, ALE as drop-down values. |
Technical Details | Relevancy Rule | Text line to add details for a relevancy rule. |
Technical Details | TUT Status | Status for Technical Unit Testing. |
Custom Attributes | Various Fields | These fields are configured using Administer > Advanced > Attributes. |
Design Details | Design Complete | Dataset Design Date on which the design is considered complete and ready for release for the mapping phase. |
Design Details | Design Date | Dataset Design Date on which the design is started. |
Design Details | Development Complete | Dataset Development Date on which the development is considered complete. |
Design Details | Development Date | Dataset Development Date on which the development is started. |
Design Details | Test Complete | Dataset Test Complete on which the design is considered complete and ready for release for the mapping phase. |
Design Details | Test Date | Test Date on which the testing is started. |
Design Details | Workshop Date | Dataset Workshop Date on which the workshop is held. |
Design Details | Workshop Notes | Text line to add details from the workshop. |
When finished with edits, click the Save icon to complete or Cancel icon to exit. Should the user cancel or click on a different Dataset Type row, the system generates a message, "Are you sure you want to leave this page? You will lose all unsaved changes."
Delete a Dataset Type
To remove an existing Dataset Type that is not locked, click on the Delete icon and the system generates a Warning message. Click OK to proceed. The Dataset Type is removed from the list.
Issues with Deleting a Dataset Type
If the Dataset Type is currently assigned to a Dataset, it is not available to delete. At this point, the user must remove this Dataset Type from its assignments, and then delete from the Dataset Types table. Click OK to close the Delete window and cancel the action. See Error messaging with details provided below:
