Log Database Connection Properties Dialog

Prev Next

This dialog box can be used to set up a database connection for storing Syniti Replicate logs information.

Note

Syniti recommends to use the Microsoft SQL Server database to store logs information.

Complete the following steps to access the Log tab:

  1. In the Management Center Metadata Explorer, click Replication Agent Options.

  2. In the Replication Agent Options dialog box, click the Log tab.

Log Tab

In the Log tab, select Database from the Write Log To list. The following two options can be selected to store logs as required:

  • Use Metadata Connection: This option is selected by default. Syniti Replicate creates the logs components required on the same schema where the Syniti Replicate Metadata resides. This option is recommended for small implementations, maximum 20-30 replications on production environments or used for DEV/QA environments. Not recommended for Syniti Knowledge Platform deployments.

  • Use Specific Connection: Creates a separate database connection to store logs information. If you consider selecting this option, Syniti Replicate will utilize one additional thread to keep this connection open all the time.

    Note

After selecting this option, click the ellipses () button to open the Connection Properties dialog box, and then set up the database to store logs information.

Additional Properties

To simplify the Log Maintenance process, you can specify any one (or both) of the two additional properties below that can be used to retain logs information. These properties limits the log messages and enables you to optimize your database performance.

  • Keep Max: You can define a specific number of records on the historical logs. Value in total number of messages, which includes errors, alerts, warning, and so on. This value is set as 0 by default. Note that the value is in thousands. For example, if you want to keep 5,000 records in the log, set the field value to 5.

  • Retention Time: You can define a specific time in Hours to store the historical logs information. This value is set as 0 by default.

These parameters can be combined to provide a flexible and balanced approach to log storage, ensuring critical data is available within the limits of both space and time constraints. If you decide to set both options; Syniti Replicate will automatically enforce the retention settings during the next validation cycle when one of these conditions is met.

This validation occurs when a replication is running, for Refresh mode this happen when the replication is executed.

Important!

If you are not specifying either of the above conditions, Syniti Replicate will never clean the logs as the default value is 0 for both conditions. In some cases, this action can cause delays in other components, such as Remote Management Center and Metadata Explorer, when logs shares the same connection with the Metadata repository.

For example, a good strategy is to set the Retention Time field to 72 Hours, as this allows you to store the information for enough time.

Log Settings

You can set additional log settings as specified in the Log Settings Dialog article.
