Create a Connection

Important!

If you are using TLS v1.0 for your database server, you need to update your server to a more secure version before you can connect to the Syniti Knowledge Platform, as TLS v1.0 is not compliant with current TLS security standards.

If you are unable to update the server, you can consider alternative methods to extract the data, such as Flat File Extracts, SSIS Packages, or Syniti Connect (BOOMI).

A connection provides the connection properties or string required to connect to the related system datastore for specific usages. You must be an administrator to add or edit connections.

To create a connection:

  1. Verify you’re in the Catalog module of the Syniti Knowledge Platform.
    Or
Select Catalog from the Home menu to navigate to the Catalog module of the Syniti Knowledge Platform.

  2. Create a system.
    Or
    Search for an existing system.

  3. If a datastore is not available, create a new datastore for the system and configure the connection during the datastore creation process.
    Or

Select the required datastore to open the datastore Details page.

  4. Click the Connections tab or list.

  5. Click Add connection. The Create Connection page is displayed.

  6. Select a connection type and enter the required connection details. The fields (properties) on this page are contingent upon the selected connection type.

    Note

Connections can be created using the dynamic properties form. Currently, the dynamic properties form is available only for a limited set of systems, and will be available for more databases in the future.

  7. To include additional connection properties that are not displayed on the form, click + Add Property.

  8. From the Usage list, select the required usage to define how this connection is used for your datastore.

  9. From the SKP Connectors list, you can select the required SKP Connector, provided they have access to the datastore.

  10. Click Save.

Databases With Dynamic Properties Form

  • Databricks

  • IBM Db2 OS/390

  • IBM Db2 LUW

  • Microsoft SQL Server

  • Oracle

  • PostgreSQL

  • SAP HANA

  • SAP systems via SAP NetWeaver

  • Snowflake

Note

  • The Metadata Scanning usage is not yet supported in IBM Db2 OS/390, IBM Db2 LUW databases and Snowflake using KeyPair.

  • SNC support for SAP NetWeaver is currently under development. Although enabling SNC marks the password field as optional, users must still provide password credentials, as SNC is not yet supported.

Test a Connection

Testing the connection verifies each selected usage with a test specific to each usage.

To test a connection:

  1. Verify you’re in the Catalog module of the Syniti Knowledge Platform.
    Or
Select Catalog from the Home menu to navigate to the Catalog module of the Syniti Knowledge Platform.

  2. Search for an existing system.

  3. Click on a datastore name to open the datastore Details page.

  4. Click the Connections tab.

  5. Click the down caret to view details about the connection.

  6. Click Test all connections to test all datastore connections.
    Or
Click on the connection name to open the connection details, then click Test Connection.

Refer to Troubleshoot a Connection when you face any issues while testing a connection.

For more information about testing connections, click the Page help icon on the Site menu.

Delete a Connection

Delete a connection with great caution. A connection could be used across many scheduled jobs within the system datastore. Be sure to check with your team to ensure there aren’t any jobs or tasks that rely on the connection that are in progress.

To delete a connection:

  5. Click the Name link to open the connection detail page.

  6. Click the More actions ellipsis.

  7. Select Delete.
