Onboarding Essentials

Welcome aboard! Embark on your data replication journey with us as we guide you through the first steps.

1. Accessing Replicate Preview

Replicate Preview is available in the Syniti Knowledge Platform (SKP). Authorized users can access this module in the SKP remotely. The client supports Syniti’s servers that extract, scan, translate, and store data from legacy and target systems. Your local desktop requires the installation of Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services) and a standard web browser, such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

2. Configuring Systems and Datastore Connections

Setting up your source and target systems and establishing datastore connections in the SKP’s Catalog module is an important task in your data replication journey. Based on your project requirements and use cases, such as for Data Migration, Data Quality, or Replication, you have to identify the required source systems (where you need to copy the data from) and the required target systems (where you need to store the copied data).

  • Examples of target systems, but not limited to:

    • New production systems

    • Working databases in the SKP

    • Syniti Drive for exporting data

  • Examples of source systems, but not limited to:

    • Legacy systems

    • Data from Syniti Construct

    • Data in Working databases

    • Data from flat files

Now that you have identified the required source and target systems for your project, you need to create and configure those systems in the SKP’s Catalog module. The following steps are described in high-level to configure systems and datastore connections:

  1. Create your required source and target systems. Refer to Systems for more information.

  2. Create the required datastores within the identified source and target systems.

  3. Select or Create connections for the newly created datastores with an SKP Connector configured for your tenant.

    Note

While creating a connection, ensure that you select the Replication option from the Usage list. Refer to Set the Usage of a Connection for more information.

  4. Test each connection in the systems.

  5. If required, add scan filters to limit the metadata being scanned, and then scan the identified systems. Refer to Scan a System for more information.

Configuring Drives

To set up drives for file exports, reporting, or flat file replications, refer to Create a Drive for more information.

3. Registering a Replication Hub

Replication Hub enables Replicate Preview to leverage the Replication Agent (installed in the on-premises server instance) until the cloud-based Replication Engine is available for supporting the intended source and target systems. Refer to Running the Replication Agent as a Service for more information on setting up the Replication Agent.

An SKP Administrator must configure at least one Replication Hub with an SKP Connector associated with the configured datastore connections. A Replication Hub allows an instance of Syniti Replicate installed on-premises to connect to Replicate Preview in the cloud. Refer to Replication Hubs for more information on registering and working with a Replication Hub in the SKP.

Next Steps

After setting up the required configurations, you must create a workspace in Replicate Preview for each replication project to kickstart your data replication journey. Refer to Workspaces to know more about workspaces in Replicate Preview.

Note

Should there be a need to contact support during initial configurations, refer to Contact Support for more information on how to submit a support request.
